A tie-rod cylinder is a type of hydraulic or pneumatic cylinder that is designed for linear motion and force generation in various industrial applications. It is named "tie-rod" because it typically consists of a cylindrical barrel connected by a set of tie rods that run parallel to the cylinder's axis. These tie rods secure and maintain the structural integrity of the cylinder assembly. The cylinder barrel is the outer cylindrical housing that contains the internal components of the tie-rod cylinder. It provides structural support and protection for the internal parts. Inside the cylinder barrel, there is a piston that moves back and forth in response to hydraulic or pneumatic pressure. The piston is connected to the piston rod and generates the linear force required for the cylinder's operation. The piston rod, also known as the rod or shaft, extends from the piston through one end of the cylinder barrel. It is the part of the cylinder that connects to the load or the application requiring linear motion. The piston rod transmits the force generated by the piston to the external load. Tie-rod cylinders are equipped with sealing mechanisms, including piston seals, rod seals, and wiper seals, to prevent hydraulic fluid (in hydraulic cylinders) or compressed air (in pneumatic cylinders) leakage.

These seals are essential to maintain pressure integrity and protect the internal components from contaminants. Tie-rod cylinders are controlled using hydraulic control valves (in hydraulic cylinders) or pneumatic control valves (in pneumatic cylinders) that regulate the flow of fluid or air to the cylinder. These valves allow operators to control the extension and retraction of the piston rod. Tie rods are threaded rods or bolts that pass through holes in the end caps of the cylinder barrel. They secure and hold the end caps in place, ensuring that the cylinder remains structurally stable when subjected to hydraulic or pneumatic pressure. The number and size of tie rods can vary depending on the cylinder's design and capacity. Tie-rod cylinders have two end caps, one at each end of the cylinder barrel. These end caps are typically made of durable materials such as steel or cast iron and provide a seal for the hydraulic or pneumatic fluid inside the cylinder. Tie-rod cylinders can be mounted in various orientations and configurations to suit the application's requirements. Common mounting options include clevis mounts, flange mounts, and trunnion mounts. They are used in forklifts, conveyor systems, and other material handling equipment for lifting and positioning loads. Tie-rod cylinders are found in construction equipment such as excavators, backhoes, and loaders for various tasks, including bucket movement and boom control. They are employed in agricultural equipment like tractors and harvesters for tasks such as raising and lowering implements. Tie-rod cylinders are used in machine tools such as hydraulic presses and shears for various metalworking processes. They are used in various automotive assembly and testing equipment. Tie-rod cylinders are used in oil and gas drilling equipment and wellhead control systems. They are found in manufacturing processes that require precise linear movement, such as metal stamping and forming.
